Identification: A medium-sized raptor with a gray head and upperparts, black-tipped flight feathers, and brown underparts with scattered white bars. The undertail coverts are white; tail is gray. Legs and feet are yellow. Males have red irises, females have yellow.
Juveniles are slimmer than similar species (like the Crested Goshawk), with brownish-gray heads, pale eyebrows, and white spots on the back. Underparts have teardrop-shaped markings.
Found in dry and mixed forests, open woodland, and grassland. Both resident and non-breeding migrant. Commonly seen.
